Way up north in Paoay, Ilocos Norte, along the northern shores of the town’s lake, is the Balay ti Amianan, which served as the rest house of former President Ferdinand Marcos. As such, the house is also called the “Malacañang of the North.” “Balay ti amianan” is Ilocano for “house of the north.”
The property is now owned by the Philippine government and has been converted into a museum showing memorabilia owned by the former First Family. I’m not sure how well-maintained the place is now, but the pictures on this gallery page show how gorgeous the interiors are. For a tourist account, visit this blog post by missP.
To the north of this historical house (easily seen in Google Maps) is once-exclusive golf course of Marcos. Currently, the golf course is owned and managed by the Fort Ilocandia Resort, which we’ve featured last year.
