I’ve featured several solitary island resorts here in Vista Pinas. Those are resorts that have a whole island to themselves. These include Grande Island Resort in Subic Bay, Dos Palmas Arreceffi Island in Puerto Princesa, and Amanpulo in the Sulu Sea. So now I’ll be featuring yet another one and this is the Bonito Island Resort which occupies Culebra Island in Tingloy, Batangas.
If you’ve ever taken a boat from Batangas Pier to Puerto Galera, then you most probably have seen this island (unless you were asleep). The route the boats take pass by this island. Sometimes the boat may go between Culebra Island and Maricaban Island (the main large island of Tingloy) to the west, or it may pass by the eastern side of Culebra, either to the east or west of the smaller island of Mabalahibong Manoc (yes, that’s the tiny island’s name). When I went to Puerto Galera, I’ve seen Culebra Island (though I didn’t know what it was called then), and became curious since it seems to be quite an attractive location for an island resort. Now with Google Maps, I get to virtually visit Bonito Island!

Tingloy and the nearby mainland Batangas town of Mabini are popular diving areas (e.g., Anilao) so it’s no surprise that the main water-sport activities you can do at Bonito Island Resort are scuba diving and snorkeling. The resort is, after all, a known dive resort and the island’s former (?) owner is Conrad C. Leviste1, an avid scuba diver. If diving is not your thing, you can just soak in the resort’s pool or take a cruise aboard M/V Bonita, the resort’s boat. I’m guessing that it’s possible to take a whole-day boat trip around Tingloy on Bonita.
If you want to learn more or to contact the resort, go to their official website. You might also want to check out this article about the resort, from the book 100 Resorts in the Philippines: Places with a Heart. More pictures can also be found at this photo gallery.
1 Conrad is the twin brother of former Batangas Governor Tony Leviste, the estranged husband of Sen. Loren Legarda and who is now involved in a murder case. Conrad’s son Marc is currently vice-governor.
