And what is a better follow-up post to the Aguinaldo Shrine than its controversial centennial tribute? The Philippine Independence Centennial Exposition, better known as the Centennial Expo, was to have been the grand centerpiece of former President Ramos’ term.
This mostly unused 60-hectare site located in the Clark Special Economic Zone in Angeles City, Pampanga is riddled with controversies, among them the more than one billion pesos spent on it (not all accounted for) and the accusation that it was used to drive the Lakas campaign during the 1998 national elections.
The Expo seems to perfectly symbolize the development of the Philippines from the 100 years since it declared itself independent.
