For the past several years now, there has been a proliferation of gasoline stations/strip malls along the South Luzon and North Luzon Expressways. These stations/plazas, which we still have no official name for (suggestions include “gas malls,” “megastations,” and “gas plazas”), are a usual first stop-over or meeting place for out-of-town vacationers from Metro Manila. These gas stations, for the unitiated, have a variety of fast-food and fine-dining restaurants and cafés. The usual suspects include McDonald’s, Jollibee, KFC, Chowking, Pizza Hut, Max’s, Starbucks Coffee, and Seattle’s Best Coffee. These stations also often have clean restrooms.
The first of these gas stations we’ll point to is the Petron Express Center in Marilao, Bulacan. Located at Km. 22 on the northbound side of the NLEx, this particular service station has Jollibee and Pancake House among its restaurants. This Petron station is the first of these megastations you’ll see on the northbound side of the NLEx.
