Since I just spent this weekend over there, the next sight we’ll feature is Puerto Galera in Oriental Mindoro. You could say that Puerto Galera is the poor man’s Boracay since you only need to spend about 1,500 pesos each for transportation and lodging for a group of about eight people.
The popular spots in this seaside municipality are White Beach and Sabang Beach. White Beach, in particular, is quite popular with the Manila crowd and it gets really crowded during Holy Week (when it becomes a beach version of Malate) and during summer long weekends, like the past Labor Day weekend.
For those who still haven’t been to this well-known weekend vacation spot, some of the things you can do here are watersports like snorkeling and scuba diving, and also jetskiing, windsurfing, banana and flying fish boating. For the less adventurous, you can simply sunbathe on the sand, play some beach volleyball, avail of a full-body massage, or get a wicked henna tattoo. You can also visit the Mangyan Village or play some golf at Ponderosa Golf Club 2,000 feet above White Beach (Ponderosa reportedly has some amazing views of Puerto Galera).
Getting to Puerto Galera is quite easy. Just take any bus that goes to Batangas Pier and then from the International Port of Batangas, avail of any of the boats that go to Puerto Galera.
