Our second featured shopping mall is Robinsons Place Bacolod in Negros Occidental (the first one is SM City Bacoor). Bacolod City is one of the few places Robinsons Land Corporation, which is probably the country’s second-largest shopping mall operator, has SM Prime Holdings beat to put up a shopping mall. While SM City Bacolod is slated to have its grand opening later in October this year, Robinsons Place Bacolod has been in operation since 1997.

I remember going to this mall back when I visited Bacolod several years ago. It was the only modern mall in the vicinity back then and locals, especially students from the University of St. La Salle and the University of Negros Occidental, frequented the place. Even so, it’s really quite a small shopping mall compared to the giants of Metro Manila. Metro Manileños are apt to remark, “Eto na iyon?” (“This is it?”).
