Splash Island

Satellite image of Splash Island in Biñan, Laguna.

Summer is over, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have some wet and wild fun. I even think that some rain and drizzle is actually nice. So if you want to enjoy some water fun, Splash Island at Southwoods Ecocentrum in Biñan, Laguna might be an excellent choice since it’s only around 30 minutes south of Manila.

To go to Splash Island, just take the Southwoods southbound exit of the South Luzon Expressway and follow the directions. Admission price during the weekends and holidays is 325 pesos for adults and 250 for children, and they are open from 9 am till 5 in the afternoon. (Sorry, no night swimming allowed.) Visit their official website to learn more.

Unlike 8 Waves Waterpark, Island Cove, and other similar resorts, Splash Island has no hotel and is not really an ideal place for conferences and team-building activities; it’s simply a place to have pure water fun. This is evidenced by the resort having one of the country’s largest wave pools, and having the what I think the the country’s largest collection of water slides.

Interestingly, if you look at Splash Island in Google Maps, you might notice that the waterpark straddles two sets of satellite imagery and this is obvious from the misaligned image of adjacent South Luzon Expressway. This goes to show that you should never rely on Google Maps to get the exact coordinates for a given place. At best, you can only get approximate coordinates.

Update. Due to a recent update of satellite imagery in Google Earth (June 2) and Google Maps (June 9), the above-mentioned misalignment can no longer be seen.

Just came from Splash Island yesterday (April 30, 2008) and it was such a horrible experience. I ve been a regular visitor of the park for the past 5 years and was so disppointed with my experience yesterday. The water was green in all the pool and slides. the most noticeable was in the river ride. It was never like this. Aside from the dirty water, the comfort room was is a state of disrepair. There were no locks, it reaked of odor , the toilet bowl either had no water connection or the water just leaked. The surprising thing was there were at least 3 maintenance crew inside that small comfort room . This was the comfort room near the fast food area. The hand wash area by the fast food area was the worst! There were 2 sinks and only 1 was working. Apparently the other sink’s drain was clogged with used toilet paper, discarded food and wrappers. Again there were a lot of cleaning staff in the dining area but no one just seem to care to clean the mess . The male shower drain was also clogged. The whole dressing area had at least an inch of water. Also the lighting was inadequate. There were lighting fixtures but a lot had no bulbs.
It is a pity that Splash Island has turned to the worst. My kids and I love the water park . Hopefully the management does something about it. My kids will be giving it one last chance next year.

Up to when is Splash Island open? Will it be open up to end-May? I know they usually close before classes start in June. Thanks.

Is Splash Island been cleaned already? My family and I will be going there this coming weekend. I hope my first time in that water park will not be like what Gilbert Sy had. for those people who’d been there recently, kindly answer my question so I won’t be wasting money to such kind of water park…thanks…

I’m planning on going to Splash Island tomorrow. I don’t have a car though. Anyone know how to get there by commuting? I will be coming from Alabang. There is a South Station terminal here and an alabang terminal but I don’t know what to take. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance!

PUBLIC WARNING. Splash Island can be a really fun place. Please be warned however that there exists rampant stealing of personal valuables within the resort. The sad thing about this is that the management and employees of Splash Island are so accustomed to it that it does not seem to bother them anymore. The only obvious thing that the management is doing is playing a disclaimer within the resort that Splash Island will not be liable for any loss or damage to guest’s property that took place within its premises. This is the best help you can expect. Go there at your own risk and enjoy the not so comforting service. Please help to spread this word to warn other people.
Thank you.
