Xavier University is arguably the second-most well known member of the Ateneo university system after Ateneo de Manila University. Located in Cagayan de Oro City in Misamis Oriental, Xavier University is one of the top two institutes of higher learning in Northern Mindanao along with the MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology.

XU was previously known as the Ateneo de Cagayan (see their official website). Their main campus occupies 8 hectares in central Cagayan de Oro and serves a total of about 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students.
